Woodland Critters for Sander

I was at first a bit fearful of free patterning so many critters, but the results (if I do say so myself) were adorable.

(223-219) Little Ladies for a Little Lady

At long last after months of construction I finished Karly's or should I say Addie's mobile!
It was a smidgen behind schedule, but I can wait for little Addison to enjoy the cuteness of the little ladies! Each lady is hand crafted out of a baby/toddler sock. The wing base is from felt and a cross pattern patch of material is embroidered to the felt. Faces are also embroidered and the bugs are given slightly different personalities. To bring out their feminine charm they have pearl necklaces. And what bug is complete with out some pipe cleaner antennas!

So cute to see the beautiful Miss Addie enjoying her mobile!

(262) Ladybugs!

The other project that I need to get underway is a ladybug mobile. I had been searching for patterns to di-cut some (svg files) ladybugs for the invitations and came across this site: Everything Ladybug

It's amazing to me that there is a whole site dedicated to ladybugs. Ah the internetz!!! They had some great svg files though and I am going to happily put this to use. I already used it for the invitations. I am also going to put them to use on the banner. But I digress...

Now I am looking for ideas for the mobile I am designing. I have some super cute polka dot socks in various shades of pink, white, and green. I think for this set I am going to do the cross patterned embroidery wings (like I did for the owls).

Here is the only inspiration I could find, but it is a pretty boring mobile -

(273-270) Sock Monkeys Ready to Play

Here are the sock monkeys for Jen and Tom. We decided they look more like robot sock monkeys...they kind of took on a life of there own during the project. Greg was very proud that he was able to sew one of them himself too!

Monkey #1 " Smiles" & #2 "Hot Lips"

Monkey #3 "Surprise" & #4 "Happy"

Final Mobile :

Hand made card and final wrapped present:

To top off the gift I hand made a card with some quiet scrap book bird paper and a couple -cut pieces. With a special note for the mom and dad to be. It just so happened that the green ribbon worked perfectly for wrapping the gift together.

(276-275) Sock Monkey ProtoType and Sock Monkey #1

Today I prototyped a sock monkey to find a way to work the design with one sock. The prototype was looking a bit more like a cat sock animal, so I tweaked the design and also decreased the size so it would be right for a mobile (used toddlers 22-24 month socks). Here is the first monkey:

Greg volunteered to sew the twin monkey.

Tonight I cut the socks for set #2 and tomorrow the plan is to sew round #2. Later this week I will get around to figuring out how I will embroider the mouths. Just in time because the baby shower is November 13th.

(283-279) The Beavers Have Arrived...

Though I was a bit under stress in the production mode, the beavers turned out to be cute buggers. I hope Kate & Corey enjoy them and can't wait to meet their little one!

Here are the first set of beavers:

(298) Bunny Prototype #1

Okay it is way past my bedtime, but for some reason I am wide awake. I should be sleeping as I have quiet a bit of housework to do in the AM before friends arrive to help celebrate the 4th, but I thought this was a perfect time to write to the hum of the dryer.

Today we woke and giggled in bed until we forced one another to awaken. We decided breakfast was called for and headed down to Shari's, not my favorite establishment, but convenient as it is so close to our home (and we do not yet have the kitchen in a functioning state).

After breakfast we were both super sleepy so we came home and snuggled up to watch the Paraguay v. Spain football match. Our procrastination worked well as we did not actually get to cleaning the house until around 2PM. Then it was like mad pandemonium as we dashed through our clothes. We did some serious deep cleansing. Goodwill will most certainly be our friend this month. It has been over a year since we have had the opportunity and with being under constant construction it has added even more distractions to life.

The time procrastinating did give me a little room to put together the first bunny prototype. I think it turned out rather cute. Now I have to finish the other three bodies this week and hit the embroidery soon to follow. I have to bust this mobile out before the baby shower at the end of the month!

So this month I have bunnies for a mobile, drawing for a map (for the wedding invitations), jewelry design (for my wedding), and a Bob Ross class to boot! I think the universe is sending some creative opportunities my way as I have been struggling to find time for my creative projects with the many things that I have been juggling lately.

In other news - we are about three weeks from having the kitchen done at last. The floors go in on Wednesday and we are installing the bottom cabinet immediately after. We picked out the counters and the only really big decision that remains is the range and microwave unit. Hopefully we will go out on Monday and find something, then we should be set!

And now I really am off to bed!

(299) Bunnies!

This weekend I am going to start the bunnies!

I researched ideas quiet a bit, but and found there are so many different ideas. My favorite came from a super cute idea on ElsieMarley.com

I am hoping to make the bunny bodies this weekend, but my plan is to add a little flair with some embroidery. I have not quiet decided what to do for the eyes, but know there will definitely be some eyelashes involved.

I am excited to see how this project turns out!

(305) Project Horizon - Girl Mobile!

I am super excited to start on a mobile for a baby girl!

I am starting to look at designing a rabbit or ladybug pattern, something along those adorable lines.

I won't have time to start until July, but if I get the patterns done now I will be one step ahead :)

Skye's Owl Babies

The owls took a little longer than the weekend, but I am happy to report they are done!

The graduating class of January 2010 (soon to move into mobile form):

My friend helped construct some branches with hooks. Now after these have set with varnish the mobiles will be ready to construct.

All-in-all the owls are a fairly easy project, but take a bit of time. Finding the right socks, cutting the pieces, sewing, embroidery and constructing the mobile. Stitching the wings and beaks and hand sewing means each owl takes an evening at best. And two if you count getting the body done. If you want to do a similar project I would recommend doing the work in stages.

On that note. This nite owl is off to bed!

(347-343) Four Baby Owls for Mobile #2

So I have been behind on posting this week, but much progress has been made. I have four owl bodies complete and this weekend my goal is to finish the stitch work.

This set is much more muted colors than (mint and brown) than the first set and will safely be done before the February 6th baby shower :)

Stay tuned for the sock babies.

(350) Owl #4 Blue's Twin

Last night I finished the owls for mobile #1. Now I just need to construct the mobile. One more mobile to go for next week! I need to get it ready before the February baby shower.

Here are the blue twin's:

(351) Owl #3 - Chubby Gray

Tonight flew by and it is not surprising that it is way after my bedtime.

After a lovely dinner with the Glennon-Olsen's we took a quick trip to Powell's. I picked up a contemporary embroidery book (The New Crewl) and got side tracked looking at the interesting patterns when I got home. There is one in particular (Peace Tree) pattern that is super cute. I think it will add it to the ever growing list of crafts.

Goal #1 still remains to get owl mobile for January baby! And so to meet this need I put together the body for owl 3, which I am aiming to finish the assembly on tomorrow. A couple more nights of work and the owls will be ready to fly!

There are several other similar projects lined up for my nephew to be also including an owl mobile and a stuffed owl that I am trying to make before her shower in February. If I get super ambitious I might add a little felted owl to the batch too, but we shall see as time moves on.

Also in the early February time frame I am aiming to construct Valentine's cards to send.

Here are pictures of Owl #3:
